The ability of certain animal groups to fly by themselves has always stirred my imaginations and one such is the flock of birds flying together.
Have any of you gazed at the sky to watch a ‘V’ soaring overhead? No, it’s not a flying alphabet; it’s the flocks of birds. Why do the birds love the letter ‘V” that they prefer this letter for flying? Hope many of you are interested in knowing what science has discovered about why these birds fly in a ‘V’ shaped way?
Come on. Unfurl your wings and join us to find out the answer.
Some birds, including swans, geese, cranes, pelicans and flamingos, form tight, ‘V’ shaped patterns, while others fly together in loose flocks.“TEAM WORK IS DREAM WORK” The best example that I can have for the above mentioned quote is the flock of geese flying together.
Why do geese fly in a V formation.?
Scientists have founded out that the V shaped flying technique which is used by the geese when they migrate usually serves for two important purposes
The first purpose is that it conserves their energy. This flying in formation technique makes the birds easier to fly. As the birds soar up through the air by flapping the wings; the air which is flowing from the wing tips of the bird in the front gives an extra lift to the bird in the back. This helps in reducing the air resistance and few amount of drag, thus reducing the amount of energy the bird needs to fly.
The second advantage is that the lead bird gets tired, he rotates back in the wing and another bird takes over his position. This rotation helps the flock of birds to fly for a longer time.
This V shaped formation also enhances communication and coordination within the flock, allowing birds to improve orientation and follow their route more directly
I also found that there are also some other real life applications for the V formation .The Military fighter jets also use the same ‘V’ formation technique and this technique is more likely to come for commercial aircraft.
They also bring out a most beautiful fact “IF WE ARE TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!”
We may have to shop around for airline deals, but the world’s most frequent fliers now mastered cheap travel.Don’t they??It’s really amazing how smart animals are sometimes even beyond what humans are capable of.If we have the sense of these birds, we will stand by each other when things get rough.
